In March of 2001 some magical things were happening in Southern Illinois.
This date marked the first time since Imaginarium that collaborators Vir Unis & Chris Short played music together. It was a very fruitful time and much music was recorded. First was three days of intense jamming with a four piece group that included Vir Unis on trap kit, Interstitial on Bass and Trumpet, Chris Short on Guitartronics, and Tim Mckee on Guitar
After the other guys left, the evening after and the morning before they were to arrive Vir Unis & Chris decided to record some soundscapes. The following resultant improvisations became "the yellow house"

An abstract drift album dedicated to the collaborative work of Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin when they lived in Arles, south France. Also conceptually, attempting to make associations between music and painting and painting with music. The approach for the overall sound of the album was to mirror the vividness of Vincent's paintings. I think it crosses musical boundaries somewhat with more appearances of figurative instrumentation. A combination of traditional drift and more pronounced gestures. The music was done with a tonally brighter, clearer palette. I think the time of day is evident in the recordings as well. The bulk of the initial recordings performed early in the morning, the exception being what became "starry night". We had several sticks of nag-champa incense burning and sunlight was streaming through the windows as we improvised.

I then took those performances and elongated certain passages, added overdubs, and tweaked....... If you liked Drift Inside you will probably enjoy this. The titles allude to the story of the painters collaboration or are actual titles of Vincent's paintings.
